Index your fire insurance (ABEX)
Insurers usually adjust the building's insured amount every year with the ABEX index, which tracks construction costs. If your policy does not keep up, the building is underinsured.

How the indexation is calculated
ABEX and the insured amount
The ABEX index tracks the cost of building in Belgium. Your policy usually states the index the insured amount is based on, for example ABEX 1009. New amount = insured amount × new ABEX / ABEX in the policy.
Health index and contracts
The health index is the consumer price index without alcohol, tobacco and motor fuels. Statbel publishes it every month. New amount = base amount × new index / starting index.
Why one base?
Statbel publishes the health index in several bases, such as 2013=100 and 2025=100. Both index figures must come from the same base, otherwise the result is wrong. The calculator therefore picks a base that covers both months.
